About SSY
What is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)?
SSY is a government-backed small savings scheme for the welfare of a girl child. It can be opened by parents or legal guardians of a girl child below 10 years of age, with a minimum annual deposit of ₹250.
What is the SSY interest rate?
The current SSY interest rate is 8.2% per annum (Q1 2025-26), compounded annually and credited to the account at the end of each financial year.
When does the SSY account mature?
The account matures 21 years from the date of opening, or upon the marriage of the girl child after she turns 18. Contributions are required only for the first 15 years.
What are the tax benefits?
SSY follows the EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax model — contributions are deductible under Section 80C (up to ₹1.5L), interest earned is tax-free, and the maturity amount is tax-free.
